Get amongst some good old backyard footy with the first ever Manawatu Turbos Quick Rip Championship!

Quick Rip is a non contact version of rugby with the added bonus, unlike normal Rippa, of being able to kick in play!
Just for old times sake you even get to do lineouts. Dress up encouagred, spot prizes and competition prizes all up for grabs every night not to mention the grand prize for the team that takes it out!

TURBOS Business House Quick Rip 
Key points:

  • Each team gets four 'Rips' per possesion to work their magic with kicking allowed at any point.
  • Quick Rip is a Non-contact version of rugby with men and women playing together.
  • Each Team must have at least two female players on the field at all times.
  • Played on ½ field, 14 minute games with 2 games a night at the Central Energy Trust Arena
  • A limit of 16 teams so get in quick
  • The 6-week competition Starts 6pm Monday 7th Nov-12 Dec
  • The Palmerston North Old Boys Marist club rooms will also be open for socialising, drinks and nibbles throughout the competition and of course after.

    Aaron Cruden - First Five Eighth

    Aaron Cruden is one of the best attacking players in international rugby with a strong boot and proven ability to spark his backline. The Manawatu first five-eighth has established himself as one of the world's leading playmakers since making his Super Rugby debut in 2010.

    Cruden was the main architech behind the Manawatu Turbos 2011 Championship Final run in the ITM Cup NPC. Following his outstanding form in 2011 Aaron Cruden solidified his place in the All Blacks with an impressive call up into the World Cup Squad which saw him guide the team past Argentina and then Australia in the Smie Finals with outstanding displays.

    Ambrose Curtis - Wing

    A man with fast feet and an appetite for scoring tries, Curtis is a lethal weapon in the Manawatu backline. Curtis has represented the country at both Sevens and Under 20's levels.

    Antonio Kiri Kiri - Flanker

    Antonio Kiri Kiri has proven himself a versatile loose forward that can maintain a physical presence around the field. Consistently a standout performer for his Old Boys Marist Club Kiri Kiri applies his array skills in both the 15 and 7 aside forms of the game.

    Callum Gibbins - Flanker

    A standout open side flanker who consistently leaves everything on the field for the Green and White often finding himself with the highest tackle count in the competition. Considered one of the fittest flankers in the country, he won the Hurricanes' gruelling surf to peak race two years in a row breaking the franchise record both times. Callum achieved his first full Super Rugby contract in 2015 with the Hurricanes, playing in 12 games.

    Chris Eves - Loosehead Prop

    Chris Eves came to the Turbos from Wellington for the 2013 season and had an immediate impact owning a starting position from the very first game of the season. Deceptively agile and very quick for his position Chris' outstanding debut season did not go under the radar and he was quickly capped by the Maori All Blacks and the Hurricanes for 2014.

  • Curtis Reid

    Curtis Reid - Second Five Eighth

    Formerly of Westlake College Curtis made the move to Manawatu from North Harbour to push for a Turbos contract. Following an outstanding yet consistent season for College Old Boys, Curtis' form did not go unnoticed as the 21-year old secured his first Turbos contract in 2016. He returned to North Harbour in 2018.

    Fraser Armstrong - Tighthead Prop

    Fraser Armstrong left Auckland to link up with the Manawatu Turbos in 2015. The young prop  played for the NZ schools and under-20 side. His consistent performances for the Turbos saw him rewarded with a Hurricanes contract in 2018.

    Hamish Northcott - Second Five Eighth

    Hamish Northcott made his Turbos debut in 2013. Brought into the team for his defensive qualities he continues on the proud rugby heritage of Feilding High School players to have played for the Turbos. Hamish was part of the Blues in 2015.

    Harrison Brewer - Flanker

    Originally from Ireland Harrison Brewer was a member of the Leinster Academy. Following two seasons representing Ireland at the U20 World Championships, Harrison made the move to the Manawatu. Used to playing in the backs Brewer opted for a switch into the loose forward upon arriving in New Zealand playing most of his club rugby for Te Kawau at flanker.

    Heiden Bedwell-Curtis - Flanker

    Heiden Bedwell-Curtis came to the Turbos from Taranaki in 2013 looking to seize an opportunity with the Green and White. He wasted no time winning over the home crowds and his coaches stamping his mark on the No. 6 jersey with no nonsense direct running and gritty physicality at ruck time. He took over captaincy in 2017.

    Hunter Prescott - Hooker

    Hunter Prescott moved to Manawatu during the 2016 season. He became key part of the Turbos frontrow over his two season with the side and put in some strong performances for Old Boys-Marist.

    Jackson Hemopo - Lock

    Originally from Palmerston North Boys High School Hemopo opted to return to his roots in 2016 after a couple of seasons in Otago. The Highlanders lock had a break-out Super Rugby campaign in 2017 including a man-of-the-match performance against the British and Irish Lions. He was named the Turbos' player of the year in 2017.

  • Jamie Booth

    Jamie Booth - Halfback

    Jamie Booth made his debut for the Turbos in 2015, and was rewarded for a stellar ITM Cup season with a spot in the Hurricanes Wider-Training squad in 2015. He was then called into the Blues, but did not see any game time with the Super Rugby franchise. He is an explosive halfback and a former Palmerston North Boys High School 1st XV player. Jamie has represented Manawatu at Sevens and through age grade teams.

    Jason Emery - Centre

    Jason Emery quickly turned heads and set the Turbos backline alight when he coasted past former All Black Renee Ranger to score a try against Northland in only his 2nd game. Ever since Emery has been a regular feature in the Turbos No. 13 Jersey consistently proving that he is not to underestimated with strength agility and speed to burn.

    Kane Thompson - Lock

    Kane Thompson is a journeyed veteran who brought a lot of experience into the Manawatu Turbos squad in 2016. Kane has represented Manu Samoa at the 2007 World Cup and came into the Manawatu after a season with the Newcastle Falcons.

    Kayne Hammington - Halfback

    Kayne came into the squad after a solid season with Feilding Yellows in 2014. Originally from Wellington, the young halfback also represented New Zealand U20 at the Junior World Cup in 2010. He is a great support runner with the full skill set to get himself over the line.

    Luther Hirini - Fullback

    Luther Hirini came to the Turbos in 2015 after starring for Feilding High School during his schoolboy rugby days. The winger come fullback was named in the Hurricanes under-18 squad last year, and is an exciting prospect for the Turbos to have. He was dominant at FAHS, and certainly knows his way to the try line.

    Mark Atkins - Number 8

    Mark Atkins moved to the Manawatu Turbos in 2015 from Hawke's Bay. The hard-nosed number 8 is fairly agile, and gets around the park well. Coach Jason O'Halloran expects him to be another one of the hardest working players in the team.

    Michael Ala'alatoa - Tighthead Prop

    Michael Alaalatoa joined the Manawatu Turbos in 2015 from the Waratahs. The beastly 136kg prop is solid at the set piece, and added some real grunt to the Turbos' front row. For an indication of the man's size, you only have to ask the Italians who dubbed him Jonah Lomu II Colosso.

    Nathan Tudreu - Centre

    Nathan joined the Turbos after a huge season with Kia Toa in 2014. The brother of speed merchant Newton Tudreu, Nathan is, like his brother, quick on his feet whilst carrying enough bulk to bust through on the wing.

    Nehe Milner-Skudder - Fullback

    One of the in-form players of the 2014 ITM Cup campaign, Nehe Milner-Skudder is a special rugby player. His ability to create something out of nothing is second to none and his versatility makes him an integral asset to any team he plays for. From just one season in Super Rugby for the Hurricanes, Milner-Skudder was picked in the All Blacks squad that won the 2015 Rugby World Cup in England. His electric pace and incredible step allows him to beat players and finish tries and is why you'll see more of this kid in the Black jersey.

    Newton Tudreu - Wing

    Newton Tudreu was one of the fastest players to grace the green and white jersey. Newton debuted in 2013 for the Turbos and combined an incredible mix of agility and speed and only needed an inch of space to start causing problems for the opposition.

    Ngani Laumape - Second Five Eighth

    Originally from Palmerston North Boys High School Ngani Laumape makes his return to Rugby Union following a switch from the NRL. An immensely strong Ball Carrier, Ngani played alongside Jason Emery at High School in what was one of the more formidable school boy pairings seen in recent times.

    Otere Black - First Five Eighth

    The young Otere Black came storming out of High School rugby with Tu Toa in 2013 to claim the Senior 1 highest point scorer for College Old Boys with a staggering 223 points from just 16 games. A composed and intelligent player, Otere won a Super Rugby contract with the Hurricanes in 2015, before moving to the Blues in 2018.

    Sam Malcolm - First Five Eighth

    Sam Malcolm joined the Manawatu Turbos at just 19 years old in 2015. Sam isn't the biggest first five going around, but the former Wanganui High School prodigy is one of the best tacklers in the business and has a calm head on his shoulders. His kicking is also outstanding, as he can guide his team around the park superbly and nail even the most difficult penalties and conversions.

    Tim Cadwallader - Hooker

    Tim Cadwallader boasts a unique versatility in that he can play at both hooker and prop. Representing New Zealand at the U20 world cup in 2014 and the cornerstone of the Manawatu U20 scrum in their championship 2013 season Tim is an up and comer worth taking note of.

    Toby Morland - Halfback

    A former Super Rugby Player and somewhat of a rugby journeyman Toby Morland is a veteran of the game. Since settling in the Manawatu Toby has played his Club Rugby with Te Kawau. After injuries saw the skilled halfback called into the Turbos squad Morland has wasted know time in applying his experience and cool head to put out some impressive performances in the Green and White.

    Tom Parsons - Lock

    Tom Parsons moved from Hawke's Bay to the Manawatu Turbos in 2015. The agile lock is impressive at both the line-out and scrum and became a fixture in the Turbos' second row.

    Travis Taylor - Hooker

    Travis Taylor came into the squad for the first time in 2016 after building his game in the Manawatu U20s and Manawatu Development. Following a switch from Varsity to Feilding Yellows Taylor was a consistent performer. A hip injury robbed him of his 2017 season.
