The Manawatu Turbos lost their final pre-season match against Tasman
The Manawatu Turbos conceded two late tries to lose 14-24 in their final pre-season match against Tasman in Nelson last Friday.
It was the final chance for Turbo coaches Jeremy Cotter and Rhys Archibald to test some of their new chargers ahead of the Mitre 10 Cup.
Tasman made much of the play in the first spell and were rewarded with two unconverted tries to lead 10-0 at the break. While the Turbos didn't fire too many shots in the opening 40 minutes they did impress with stout defence, particularly on their line.
The Turbos played with a greater freedom in the second half with replacement first five eighth Sam Malcolm scoring under the posts to complete a scintillating seven pointer for the visitors.
The Turbos then extended their lead with 10 minutes left in the game when Valentino Mapapalangi scored the line after a sustained period of attack.
However, the 14-10 didn't last long as Tasman responded with two quick tries to seal the match.
