Turbos fall to Otago
A big second half from Otago saw the Turbos fall 50-17 at Central Energy Trust Arena on Saturday. The Turbos lead 17-14 at halftime, but they leaked. Adding a further blow to the Turbos was Jade Te Rure leaving the field with suspected dislocated elbow. The first half was a much more positive affair for Manawatu. Dylan Nel scored first for Otago.
But the Turbos had the perfect answer when they bagged two quick tries. Rob Thompson crossed first off a perfect Te Rure offload. Thompson then set up Laloifi for a try. Faalelei Sione, who came on early for Fraser Armstrong, then crossed from short range to give the Turbos a comfortable lead despite running into the wind. Naulia Dawai pulled one back for Otago leaving the score at 17-14 at halftime.
But the second half the Turbos could not retain enough possession to attack. The set piece was messy and Otago constantly capitalised. They then scored five tries, finding space up the middle of the field and making the most of a constant stream of possession. It will be a case of moving on quickly for the Turbos who take on Canterbury in Christchurch on Thusday.
