Turbos 2016 Campaign Comes to an End.
The Turbos have slipped from Semi-Final Contention following their loss to Otago bringing their season to an end.
In what has been a hotly contested Mitre 10 Cup Championship the Turbos entered the weekend in third spot however following their 7pt loss to Otago on Friday night destiny was left out of their control.
All eyes were glued to both Bay of Plenty vs. Hawke’s Bay as well as North Harbour vs. Northland with the Turbos hoping that both Hawke’s Bay and Northland could take the win to ensure their own playoff spot. Sadly, it was not to be though as Bay of Plenty and North Harbour both won allowing them to leap frog the Turbos pushing the green and whites out of the semi-finals.
Despite being on equal points with Bay of Plenty, and having a better points differential, the Turbos still finish fifth due to the fact that Bay of Plenty were the winners when the two met on the pitch.
With the previous being the case the Turbos finish the 2016 season with a record of four wins and six losses. The Green and white scored four or more tries on four occasions whilst collecting three bonus points for losing by seven points or fewer over the campaign.
Most notably the Turbos beat defending Premiership Champions Canterbury as well the old foe Wellington at home in impressive 80min displays. However, as most will agree, consistency alluded the team throughout the season. That being said many of the Turbos did their chances of making Super Rugby sides no Harm. The coaching staff will no doubt be looking to build on their depth in the squad whilst setting a plan in motion to address set piece headaches come 2017 over the coming months.
